Rhode Athletics Club to host first-ever marathon road race

Rhode Athletics Club is set to host its very first marathon road race next month.

The marathon will take place on Saturday, September 23, at 8:30am outside Rhode National School, with the finish line also located at the school.

For those seeking a shorter challenge, a 10K race will also take place on the day. Both the marathon and 10K still have spaces available, with a scenic course promised and a fantastic medal for all finishers.

"We are expecting around 200 runners from across Ireland, making this an exciting day for the club and the wider community. We’d love to see locals come out to cheer on both visiting athletes and familiar faces from the area," said Rhode AC.

Road marshals will be on hand to direct traffic, and there may be some temporary disruption in Rathcobican, Fahy, and along the canal. "We will work to keep this to a minimum and appreciate the support and patience of residents along the route," said the club.

Rhode AC has also expressed a special word of thanks to the main sponsor of the event, the Kilmurray Group, and the other generous sponsors, including Ryan’s Pharmacy, Glenisk and Lidl.
