Bord na Móna changes its name to BnM
One of the most influential semi-State companies of the past eight decades, Bord na Móna, is undergoing a rebranding to its new official name of BnM.
The company, which came into existence in 1946, had been solely responsible for the development of Ireland's peat resources, including the production of turf and milled peat, for the economic benefit of the State.
The idea of a name change for Bord na Móna - to reflect its move away from fossil fuels to green energy projects - was first mooted as far back as 2009, when its Chief Executive, Gabriel D'Arcy told RTE News that the company was considering changing its name.
Mr D'Arcy indicated at the time that the company was looking at the possibility of adopting a new name which would reflect its proud heritage and history and also its move into the renewable energy sector.
In response to queries, a spokesperson for the company told the Offaly Independent that an announcement was expected “in the coming weeks” on a re-branding plan for Bord na Móna.
However the name change is already evident on the company's website - bnm.ie - which features its new BnM logo.
A section of the website outlining details about the company states "BnM is a renewable energy company... BnM provides employment for approximately 1,500 people and manages a land holding of over 80,000 hectares."
