Tullamore's Tolu Makay to release new EP 'People Still Cry In Summer' this Friday

Tullamore singer-songwriter Tolu Makay will officially releae her latest EP, titled 'People Still Cry In Summer', this Friday.

The launch party for the new release will be held in Dublin's The Big Romance on September 26 from from 6.30pm to 9pm, and is described as an 'intimate night of music and celebration'.

Speaking ahead of the release of 'People Still Cry In Summer', Tolu described the EP as "a journey from grief to self-discovery".

"Across six songs, People Still Cry in Summer moves through despair, loneliness, and the desire to give up towards trust, self-acceptance, and the decision to keep living.

"It's about remembering that even in the brightest seasons, sorrow can linger. This is a reminder people still cry in summer."

The Tullamore performer said her own experiences of masking her pain and sadness are what inspired her new music.

"I used to be called sunshine. I learned early on to mask my sadness with smiles, because not everyone knows how to sit with pain. Sharing often was mistaken for being too sensitive," she said.

"So, I built a world inside my music where I could be honest and safe where grief, loneliness, and resilience could exist together.

"People tell me my songs are healing. I think that's because I write from reflection, from those moments of transition when you feel lost but are still searching for light. With this project, I had to sit with the hardest parts of myself and remind myself who I am and where I started."
