Offaly TD 'delighted' as presidential hopeful Maria Steen secures 18 nominations

Independent TD for Offaly Carol Nolan has shared her support for prospective presidential candidate Maria Steen, as she secured her 18th nomination from members of the Oireachtas earlier today (Tuesday).

Under Irish law, a candidate requires the backing of at least four county councils or 20 Oireachtas members to enter the contest.

As such, Ms Steen requires just two more nominations for a place on the ballot paper for the upcoming Presidential election set to take place on Friday, October 24.

"I was the first TD to publicly support Maria Steen for the upcoming presidential election and I signed Maria’s nomination paper almost 2 weeks ago," Deputy Nolan said.

"I’m delighted to report that Maria has now received 18 nominations from members of the Oireachtas, she needs just two more!"
