Ballinasloe Show to take place this weekend
A fantastic weekend lies ahead, as the Ballinasloe Show returns this Saturday and Sunday.
Across Saturday, September 27, and Sunday, September 28, the show is set to host five All Ireland Championships finals with classes for Ponies, Horses, Cattle, Sheep and Dogs in the Ballinasloe Showgrounds. First launched in 1829, it is one of the oldest shows in Ireland.
"Over 700 animals (Horses Cattle Sheep Donkeys and Dogs) will pass through our gates this weekend," said Ballinasloe Show organisers.
"The show will have 50 volunteers stewards. It promises to be a great show."
This year, the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht provided €1 million to over 120 other agricultural shows combined across the country, including the Ballinasloe Show.
Dara Calleary TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht said the Ballinasloe show is a "key social event" in the agricultural calendar.
“Agricultural shows like Ballinasloe are a celebration of rural traditions, innovation, and community spirit.
"They bring neighbours together, showcase local farmers, crafts and food producers, and highlight all that is good about life in the countryside. I want to thank the committees and volunteers whose efforts make these events possible.”
