Athlone Film Club offering explores migrant worker’s struggles
Athlone Film Club will return to the Dean Crowe Theatre with ‘On Falling’ next Tuesday evening, October 7.
‘On Falling’ is a film set against a landscape dominated by an algorithm-driven gig economy, in a world designed to keep us apart. The film explores the silent, vital struggle to find meaning and connection. It tells the story of Aurora, a Portuguese migrant working as a warehouse picker in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Trapped between the confines of a vast distribution centre and the solitude of her own bedroom, Aurora seeks out every opportunity to resist the alienation and isolation that threaten her sense of self.
Further information on this film and the rest of the season can be found at www.athlonefilmclub.com, by downloading the Athlone Film Club app (android devices only) and on Facebook and Instagram.
Athlone Film Club is very much looking forward to welcoming back both regular and new cinephiles to the Dean Crowe Theatre. Doors open on Tuesday, October 7 at 7.30pm and the film starts at 8pm.
Directed by Laura Carreira, ‘On Falling’ is in English and Portuguese (with subtitles) and the running time is 104 minutes. Entry is €10 per film, cash only please.
Athlone Film Club was set up in 2008 under the patronage of the Dean Crowe Theatre Trust and aims to give local audiences the opportunity to see a range of world and classic cinema that rarely make it to commercial cinema.
