Free women's heart health checks in Mucklagh this evening

The Irish Heart Foundation mobile health unit will be visiting Mucklagh Community Centre this evening (Tuesday, October 7) to provide free on-site heart health checks for women.

The heart health checks, which will consist of blood pressure and pulse checks will get underway at 6pm, and will be followed by a Women's Heart Health Talk at 8pm.

The initiative is part of the Irish Heart Foundation's 'Her Heart Matters' campaign which aims to put the spotlight on the heart health of women in local communities, and encourage them to recognise the early warning signs of heart disease and take simple, practical steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

Statistics show that two in every three women over the age of 50 has high blood pressure, with almost half of them being completely unaware of it.

High blood pressure is one of the most common risk factors for stroke and heart attack – but it’s easy to manage once identified, according to the Irish Heart Foundation, while an irregular pulse could indicate atrial fibrillation (AFib), which increases stroke risk.

Early detection saves lives, so come along to Mucklagh Community Centre from 6pm this evening to avail of free heart health checks, and stay for the informative talk on heart health at 8pm. The talk is specifally aimed at women over the age of 18, and all those attending are encouraged to bring along a friend.
