Lockie retires after 46-year career with Offaly County Council

Tullamore's Loughlin 'Lockie' Sweeney has retired after a career with Offaly County Council spanning 46 years.

Lockie retired earlier this month, and the occasion was marked with a clebration in Tullamore Town Hall with his colleagues, local councillors, friends and family, including his wife Geraldine Sweeney, his son Joe Sweeney and sister Joan Sweeney.

Offaly County Council colleague Alan Murphy wrote: "Lockie has been a very familiar face to many over the years, out on the streets before many of us are out of bed, ensuring our town always looked its best.

"Always friendly, always approachable and always dedicated. His attention to detail and his pride in all he did was second to none.Not only was he a loyal, friendly and a hardworker, Lockie is an absolute gentleman, a good family man and a great friend."
