Tullamore's KMK Metals Recycling trade scrap for footballs on GOAL Jersey Day

Work came to a standstill at KMK Metals Recycling’s Tullamore and Kilbeggan plants last Friday as staff swapped scrap for sportswear in support of GOAL Jersey Day.

Employees lined up to take penalty shots against Supervisors and Managers in a spirited fundraiser that brought plenty of laughs and raised €365 for the international humanitarian charity, GOAL.

The event, organised as part of the long-running national fundraiser, saw participants don their favourite team jerseys and put their shooting skills to the test. Those who donated at least €5 were entered into a raffle, with bonus entries awarded for scoring a goal or wearing a jersey.

Prizes included a €100 voucher for a local restaurant, a tour for two at the Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery, and a €50 One4All voucher. The lucky winners were Serhii, Adam, and Robert.

Joanne Burke, HR & Communications Executive at KMK Metals Recycling, praised the enthusiastic turnout: “We wanted to do something a little bit different for this year’s GOAL Jersey Day, so we asked our employees to try score a goal for GOAL.

"We had great fun at both our sites with a lot of laughter and great camaraderie. There was a real team-building element to the proceedings, and it’s definitely something we’ll look to repeat next year. Well done to our prize winners!”

Representatives from Cappincur GAA Club, including Larry Carey, Enda Ravenhill, and goalkeeper Michael Tormey, joined the fun in Tullamore, with Tormey even stepping in between the posts.

GOAL Jersey Day is one of Ireland’s longest-running charity events, marking over 30 years of fundraising. In 2024 alone, GOAL delivered life-saving aid to more than 12 million people in crisis zones around the world.
