Over 300 Offaly students attend Teen Dating Violence Awareness Seminar in Tullamore

More than 300 students from secondary schools across Offaly gathered in Tullamore today for a powerful Teen Dating Violence Awareness Seminar, aimed at educating young people about healthy relationships, consent, and where to seek help and support.

The event featured a panel of expert speakers who shared their knowledge, experience, and passion for supporting young people affected by relationship abuse and sexual violence.

A particularly moving moment came from Bláthnaid Raleigh, who bravely shared her personal story, highlighting the lasting impact that sexual assault can have on a young person.

Attendees also heard from Mary Hayes of Too Into You, Niamh Dowler from CYPSC, Áine Costello and Deirdre Chair from Barnardos, Catherine Dooley from Rape Crisis, and Leona McManus, all of whom offered valuable insights into recognising and responding to unhealthy relationship behaviours.

The seminar was officially opened by Cathaoirleach John Leahy, who welcomed students and commended the initiative for its role in fostering awareness and resilience among young people.

Organisers expressed their gratitude to all participating schools and teachers for their support, emphasising that their involvement plays a vital role in empowering students to build respectful, safe relationships.
