Celebrations at Portiuncula Hospital as staff syndicate wins €500,000

Members of the successful syndicate celebrating outside the hospital today.

Celebrations have been taking place at Portiuncula Hospital today after an 18-member staff syndicate won a cool €500,000 prize in last night's EuroMillions Plus draw.

The National Lottery has confirmed that the successful syndicate is a group of administration staff from the hospital in Ballinasloe.

The members of the 'Lovely Ladies' syndicate are now in line to receive winnings of approximately €27,700 each.

The lucky ticket was a 'quick pick' purchase made yesterday at the hospital's Oasis shop, which caters for hospital patients, visitors and workers.

Trish O'Donoghue, the manager of the Aramark-owned shop, said: "It’s an amazing feeling that we can bring so much joy to the winners with this win.”

There was no winner of the Tuesday’s EuroMillions €115 million jackpot which means that Friday’s jackpot now rolls to a whopping €130 million.
