New Year revamp for Tullamore

Work will begin on Tullamore 's €3m Street Enhancement Scheme on January 7.

The project, which is expected to take most of 2019 to complete, will see the centre of Tullamore receive a facelift with the works including the undergrounding of cables, the installation of pedestrian crossings, the realignment of the road and the construction of a new pedestrian bridge from Millennium Square to the Bridge Centre Car Park.

Enhancement works to O'Connor Square, which will include the provision of a new civic space, is scheduled for the last phase of the project.

The Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District, Cllr Declan Harvey said that when the work is finished it will make Tullamore more attractive.

He also welcomed the decision to leave the work in O'Connor Square for the last phase of the project.

“As Cathaoirleach I am delighted that they saw sense to do the town done first, as people wanted it and the roads and paths are in a bad state of repair. There will be disruptions but it will be done in phases and they have a good plan”
