Team905 cyclists are to travel 100km on April 14

Eden cyclists to cover 100km for charity

A group of cyclists from Edenderry have plans to cycle for more than just their health next month. Team905 cycling club members will undertake a 100km cycle on April 14, hoping to raise funds for a charity trip being taken by their chairperson’s son to India in May.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent Team905 chairperson Hugh O’Donoghue explained that his 22 year old son Conor and friend Dan Moloney have plans to travel to Bengali city in India in May for a ten week stint of work with the SUAS educational programme. While there the two will live among Bengali’s poorest inhabitants and work voluntarily with local children providing one to one support and producing teaching learning materials amongst other duties.

Before that however they both have to raise approximately €3,000. The two, who are both final year engineering students at UCD, have already arranged a number of fundraisers, and Hugh said Team905 are delighted to add another to the line-up.

The April 14 cycle will begin and end in Edenderry, visiting Rochfortbridge, Tyrrellspass, Croghan, Geashill and Portarlington along the way. Between 15 and 20 of the club’s members will take on the cycle, while all club members have sponsorship cards for the event.

“If you so see any of the SUAS/Team905 sponsorship cards, or if you know any club members and you have a few euro to spare, you might consider supporting this very worthwhile effort,” Hugh said, adding that cyclists will be “grateful for anything at all”.
