Rethink needed on Eden services - Cribbin

Edenderry councillor Noel Cribbin has warned a situation that leaves Edenderry without a traffic warden and street sweeper along with fewer bin collections must be resolved. Traffic warden Pat Gallagher recently retired, while street sweeper Dennis Mooney is shortly to do the same. Cllr Cribbin said yesterday (Thursday) a recruitment embargo means the two won't be replaced, while budget constraints mean litter bins in the town are to be collected just once a week in the future. "This is going to have to be rehashed again, because this is not acceptable," he said. The councillor, who is also chairman of the local Tidy Towns organisation, said about 20 people took part in a clean-up in the town recently that resulted in a large skip being filled. "If that's anything to go by what's it going to be like now," he said yesterday. On the issue of parking the councillor appealed to local business people to avail of off-street parking, in a bid to leave on-street parking free for customers. However he said the same business owners are getting a raw deal. "The ratepayers have to get something for their buck, and they're certainly not in Edenderry," he said.
