Loughrey's of Tullamore calls time

Popular Tullamore social spot Loughrey’s on High Street has closed with the loss of some 13 jobs.

The one time guesthouse, pub, restaurant, nightclub and off-licence closed its doors for the last time last Friday, March 22.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent Alan Loughrey said he’s keen to pass on his thanks to those who gave the business their custom over the years.

Loughrey’s has been in business since 2000, when it took over what was then High Street House. The premises was closed for six months from January 2002 for renovations, and later re-opened to include guest rooms and a bar. An off-licence, restaurant and nightclub were added in later years.

At its peak Mr Loughrey said the business employed up to 65 people. However he said at time of closure those numbers had been whittled down to 13 or 14.
