Birr Castle has been flagged as a top Irish beauty spot.

Birr Castle has been flagged as one of Ireland’s top hidden beauty spots by Irish-American website IrishCentral.

An article that appeared on the website last week gave the south Offaly attraction the nod.

Birr’s Castle’s science centre was singled out for praise in the article that also gave due mention to the great telescope that’s situated on the ground.

The gardens of Birr Castle Demesne were also lauded, as well as the castle itself.

Other Irish destinations to make the list of ten included the Slieve Bloom mountains in neighbouring Laois, the Cooley mountains in Louth, Ring Gaeltacht in Waterford, the Glen of Atherlow in Tipperary and the Boyne Valley.
