Cllr eddie fitzpatrick selected to run in the general election

Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick will join Barry Cowen TD on the ticket for the forthcoming General Election in the Offaly constituency.

The Fianna Fáil National Constituencies Committee made the decision following a review of the constituency and a consultation process with members of the local organisation. Cllr Fitzpatrick was first elected to Offaly County Council in 2004 and currently represents the Edenderry Local Electoral Area.

Speaking after the selection, Chairman of the National Constituencies Committee Michael Moynihan TD said, “Fianna Fáil’s preparations for the General Election in Offaly have taken a further step forward today following the addition of Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick to the ticket.”

“Cllr Fitzpatrick has a strong history of public service in Offaly and has served on the local council for over a decade. Through his work on the council he has been involved in economic planning and the development of education services. As a farmer by profession he recognises the serious issues facing the agricultural sector across Offaly,” Mr Moynihan remarked.

“The forthcoming election is extremely important for Offaly. We have a Government that is very out of touch with the needs of people in our communities and is not doing enough to ensure there is a fair recovery in the economy beyond Dublin and main urban centres,” Deputy Moynihan concluded.
