Clonbullogue team smash death defying world record

Brothers Stephen and David Duffy, and Mark Daly of the Irish Wingsuit Team based in the Irish Parachute Club in Clonbullogue did the impossible and jumped 35,000 feet in Calafornia last weekend.

On Monday, April 10, they succeeded in breaking three Guinness World Records, two European Continental Records, three Irish national records and secured an FAI World Record.

Kildare natives Stephen and David, and Armagh born Mark Daly used oxigen assisted wingsuits to fly 26kms at speeds of up to 300kmh, in temperatures in excess of -60 degrees to break the record.

The three-man team undertook 10 jumps in five days in California to prepare for the death-defying jump, which would have killed them in seconds if something went wrong.

A normal jump is 10,000 feet. Sponsored by Aer Lingus, the team were flown home first class to recouperate in style.

And their daring stunts do not stop there as the Irish Wingsuit Team plan to fly across the Irish Sea to Scotland in September!

The trio, who have been performing wingsuit dives for seven years, will use the shortest distance between the two countries, a distance of 22kms, to make the attempt.
