Young Edenderry volunteer looking for toys for homeless children

An Edenderry school girl is busy collecting toys and other Christmas treats for homeless children.

Lexie Delaney, who earlier this year won an award for her work with the homeless, is collecting small toys, sweets and other treats that will be given to children currently livng in temporary accommodation at a party in Dublin this Sunday.

A student at Scoil Bhride Primary School, she has also got her school mates in on the act. This week she went around the different classes in the school to raise awareness and to try and get as many donations as possible for Sunday's party, which will be attended by around 400 children who don't have the security and comfort of their own home this Christmas.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent this week, Lexie's proud mum Lillian says that her house is not her own at the minute.

“The house is like a warehouse. In one room we have feel good packs for adult homeless people, which have toiletries and other things in them. Lexie's room is full of stuff for the kids and we also run a Family Rescue Team for the Ken Smollen Food Appeal,” she said.

Students at Scoil Bhride have up until Friday to bring donations to the school, while members of the public who would like to make a donation can private message Lillian on Facebook.
