Dolan's team the winners of club track and field league

The second round of the Club Track and Field League was run off on a lovely summer's evening last Tuesday. Competition was keen in all events with the result in doubt up to the last event. Kennedy's super run in Holland Gordon Kennedy ran 46.87 when winning the 400m at an athletics Golden spike meeting in Leiden in Holland on Saturday. He is now only 0.12 of a second outside the qualifying standard for European Athletics Championships. Donegan is fastest in Peter English 625 The annual Peter English 625 took place last Tuesday evening on a perfect night for running. Sean Donegan was the only competitor in the junior men's category so he joined up with the senior athletes. Here he led the seniors a merry dance as he came home a clear winner in a time of 1.36.8. With Sean awarded the Junior title it took a late surge from Maurice Fitzgerald to pass Sean Sweeney in the last fifty metres to win the senior race in a time of 1.38 with Sweeney clocking 1.39.3. Richard Galvin took third place in 1.43.4. The Masters race also produced a great duel between David Gorry and John Donegan. Gorry raced into the lead from the off and opened up a ten metre lead on the field. Donegan slowly but surely ate into the lead and looked poised to pass Gorry with one hundred metres to go, but Gorry had another gear and pulled away again to win by a margin of eight metres from Donegan with Brendan Abbot taking third place. The women's race was another closely fought affair with Martina Conlon winning in a time of 2.13.0 just ahead of Mary Daly who clocked 2.13.8. New member Michelle Mullany ran well to finish in third place in a time of 2.15.2.
