Big weekend for Edenderry"s Megan Moore...

Last weekend was a very big occasion for Edenderry GAA player Megan Moore, culminating on Sunday with an appearance at Croke Park in the INTO Mini Sevens competition. The first year student in St Mary"s in Edenderry began the weekend by competing with fellow club members Ciara Brady, Rebecca Gorman, Shauna Farrelly, Abi Yosuf and Niamh O"Connor in the Leinster Under 12 football blitz, and after victories over Kilkenny, Kildare and Dublin they beat Kildare in the final after a penalty type shootout. Then, on Sunday, Megan headed off to Croke Park, representing Leinster during the half-time match in the Wexford v Tyrone game, having selected for the honour after her national school St Mary"s won out the INTO Mini-Sevens series. On the day Megan said she and the other young competitors were treated like 'kings and queens', including being given a Wexford kit as a souvenir of the day. Feeling 'proud, but a bit nervous' Megan said she played for her school, her club and her county. 'It was very exciting. When I ran out on the pitch it was just brilliant. The game then started and my nerves disappeared.' It was after game, marching behind the Garda band on the famous pitch that things really hit home, she continued: 'It was then I realised what an occasion I had been involved in,' she said. 'To hear 65,000 people cheering and clapping was great.' Megan is no stranger to sport, coming from a very sporting family. Brothers Darren, Barry and Seanie are all involved in Edenderry GAA and Edenderry Town AFC. Her granddad Hooper Farrell represented Offaly in footballing for years, and her uncle Sean Óg Farrell won an All-Ireland hurling medal in 1994 with Offaly. She will be back in action in the next few weeks playing with Edenderry Under 12s in the semi-final of the championship and the Under 14s in the final.
