€2.7m housing scheme for elderly nearing completion

The €2.7m Rights for the Elderly housing scheme on the Clontarf Road in Tullamore is nearing completion, but the association is still taking applicants from older people in the community who wish to live in the houses. The Rights for the Elderly Voluntary Housing Association is currently prioritising the applications and will be holding interviews in the next few weeks before making a final decision on tenants. The committee is delighted to have reached this stage and is mindful of the fact that there may be more older people in the community who would like to live in their scheme but who have not applied yet. It is still not too late to make your application to the chairperson, Molly Buckley, the secretary, Jim Quinn or any committee member. The scheme of 16-two bedroom houses and a community centre is situated close to all the shops and amenities of the town centre, including the churches and public buildings. It is also situated at the rear of the HSE operated Riada House which caters for the older community. It is most ideal for older people who wish to live in a pleasant, friendly, safe and secure group environment. The scheme has received many plaudits already, not least for its high insulation qualities and underfloor heating provided by the innovative geo-thermal heatpump system. This ensures a warm comfortable house all year round with very low heating costs. Other features include the fitted kitchens and the shower/wc area that are specially designed to cater for older people"s needs and requirements. Each house also has its own small, private rear patio where people can sit out and enjoy the sun in the company of their family, relatives and friends. The architects, Kenny-Lyons & Associates, Tullamore and the builders, Mulligan"s of Mullingar are also very pleased with the scheme. Rights for the Elderly is thrilled with the interest shown in the scheme and is looking forward to having the first tenants installed by April/May. So, if you wish to be a part of it, you should make your application straight away.
