Harriers athletes take gold medals at Leinster Indoors

There were good performances by the Tullamore Athletes at the Leinster Junior Championships in Nenagh on Sunday. Fearghus Hannon carried though his excellent form from the National Juniors. He won his heat of the 60m in a new Championship Best performance time of 7.26. He went on to better this in the final, taking the gold medal in a new PB of 7.21. Paddy O"Flaherty also competed in the 60m but an ankle injury prevented him form progressing through the rounds. Darragh Hanlon and Joe Mulligan participated in the Shot and the Weight for Distance. Darragh won the Shot with a massive new PB of 12.52m, an improvement of half a metre on his previous best. Joe took the Silver medal with a throw of 10.59m. In the 35lb Weight for Distance, Darragh again took the Gold medal with a throw of 6.82, closely followed by Joe in Silver medal position with a throw of 6.14. Aine and Emer Brennan competed in the Triple and Long Jump respectively. Aine took the Gold medal in the Triple Jump with a best jump of 9.83 with Emer finishing in 4th position in the Long Jump. Lauren Dunne and Aisling Molloy are two girls new to the Club and made their debut in the Junior Ladies 60m. Lauren was 2nd in her heat and progressed into the Final where she finished in 5th place.   Leinster Senior Indoor Championships Gordon Kennedy took double Gold at the Leinster Senior Championships on Sunday, winning both the 60m and the 200m. Gordon won his heat comfortably in the 60m and went on to win the final in a time of 7.30secs. He then went on to take Gold in the 200m, winning his final comfortably in a time of 23.15. Ray Delaney competed in the 60m where he finished in a time of 7.89. He then went on to compete in the 200m where he finished in 4th position in a new PB of 25.10secs, improving by half a second on his best, set the previous week at the AAI games. Jan Basil, competing for the first time in the Tullamore colours finished in 2nd position in the high jump, taking the Silver medal with a very good jump of 1.75. Georgina Touhey was a very impressive winner of the senior women"s 3000 metre walk. Joe Mulligan moved up to the senior grade and took second place in the Shot Putt with throw of 9.05 and also took second in the 56lbs for distance with 4.60 metres. Gordon, Fearghus, Ray and Paddy then teamed up for the Men"s 4 x 200m Relay and finished off a good day for Tullamore Harriers by taking the Gold medal in 1.38.95. Leinster Masters Indoor Championships The club"s Master athletes were out in force and had a very successful day, none more so than Paddy Dolan who won five gold medals and a bronze in the V6 category. Paddy"s victories came in the 60 metres (9.7), 200 metres (32.37), 400 metres (72.47), High Jump and the Long Jump. Paddy also finished 3rd in the Shot Putt. Ger Hensey completed a classy treble in the V1, winning the 60 metres (7.54), 200 metres (25.01) and the 400 metres (56.67). Mary Walsh also won three gold medals in the V6 category with her victories coming in the 200 metres (36.73), 400 metres (84.01) and the 800 metres (3.18). Jim Dolan also had a good day winning the V4 High Jump, Shot Putt and the weight for distance. Jim also finished second in the Long Jump (3.39 metres) and the 200 metres (34.41). Gerry Kavanagh won the V2, 200 metres (30.77 seconds) and was 3rd in both the 60 metres (9.24) and the 400 metres (70.99). Larry Rigney won the V5 3000 metre Walk. News Roundup Dungarvan 10 Mile A huge crowd of around 900 runners toed the line for the Dungarvan 10 mile Road Race and the Harriers were well represented. Pauline Curley ran a good race and was first over 35 and second woman overall behind winner Rosemary Ryan. Pauline"s time was 58.45. Barry Lambe showed he is in good form by finishing in 111th place in a good time of 61.50, while Pauline Lambe must be pleased with her time of 64.04. Mick Neville finished in a time of 75.38 for the 10 mile race. Business Houses The North County farmers Cross Country Races took place in Swords last Sunday. Rosemarie Masterson finished in 9th place in the women"s race run over 2.5 miles. Rosemary"s time was 17.45. John Todd came second over 55 in the men"s 5 mile race in a time of 32.41. Tony McCormack who recently joined the club ran well and finished in 47th place in a time of 33.04. Army Indoors Declan Madden won the All Army Vets 3000 metre title last week in a time of 10.20. Fixtures The Peter Devery Memorial Race, which was due to be run in Emo next Sunday, will not be taking place next Sunday and will now be fixed for another date in the near future. February 7th and 8th: AAI Senior Indoor Championships in Belfast. February 15th: National Masters and Intermediate Cross Country championships in Tymon Park, Dublin. March 1st: AAI National Senior and Junior Cross Country Championships in Santry, Dublin. Training Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am (except on a race day).
