Ferbane Athletic Club

Buckley wins on the double Following his win in the Kepak 8-mile on Saturday 18th Paul Buckley struck gold again in the All Army Half Marathon hosted in Connemara. Unlike the Kepak 8-Mile, he didn"t get it all his own way working hard to stay in the top 5 over the first 3 mile which were at a fast pace. At the 3 mile mark the leading group were reduced to two athletes, Paul Buckley representing Army West and Pat Byrne representing the Curragh. The two athletes raced hard together to just after the six mile mark at which stage Buckley made the decisive move and worked hard from that stage of the race to cross the finish line in a time of 1 hr 15 mins and 13 secs, over two minutes clear of the Curragh and Tinryland clubman. All times on the day were adversely affected by the fact that the course was at least 1k long so this makes the times all the more respectable. Unfortunately Ferbane AC Athlete Stephen McKeigue had to withdraw from the race because of an illness picked up in the days previous to the race. He will be hoping to make up for this race at the Boston Scientific 4 Mile next Sunday. The Club will be hoping to field a strong team for this local race. New members welcome.
