Masters double gold for Harriers

Athletics: Tullamore Harriers News Last Sunday in Navan saw the running of the National 10k Road Championships. The Harriers sent a big squad of athletes and were well represented in all categories. A big field of over 300 runners competed over the two lap course. The best run of the day was from Pauline Curley who finished in third place in a time of 35.35. There was more success for Pauline as she led the women"s masters team to national gold. The other members of the team were Liz Cuskelly who ran a very steady race to finish in a time of 38.24 and Mary Daly who recorded yet another personal best with 40.56. Martina Conlon also ran very well and clocked 45.59. The Harriers other gold medal winning team were the over 50 men"s team. This very strong team was lead home by Martin Carroll who finished third in this category. Martin was well supported by Johnny Feery, John Todd, who took second place in the over 55 section and Pat Conlon. In the Senior men"s, Adrian Curley ran a great time of 34.01. Mick Murphy clocked 35.25 while Adrian Martin showed big improvement in finishing in 39.46. Defence Forces Half Marathon Last Wednesday three Harriers members competed in the Defence forces Half Marathon in Connemara, Galway. This event was started in 2005 and has gone from strength to strength with ever increasing numbers. The overall winner of the 13.1 mile distance was Ferbane A.C. athlete Paul Buckley. Fastest of the Tullamore Harriers was Declan Madden who ran a great race to win the over 40 Section. Rosemarie Masterson also had a good run to claim victory in the senior ladies. Anthony Rickard finished second in the men"s over 35 category. Dublin Graded Meeting Ger Hensey competed in the 100 metres in the graded meeting in Santry last Wednesday as a warm up for the upcoming track season. Ger came second in his race in a time of 12.17. Paul Kilmartin came fourth in the same race and clocked 13.17. Boston Scientific Road Run The annual Boston Scientific 4 mile road run takes place this year on Sunday next 3rd of May. This is a charity run that attracts a huge number of walkers, joggers and runners and is a great fun event for everyone. For entry forms or more details contact Boston Scientific on 057 9327500.
