"Sowing Seeds of Change" posters will aid teachers

Legendary sports commentator, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh will formally launch a new set of posters, which will aid teachers, at an exhibition in Tullamore this month. The launch of Just Forests" new set of posters will be held on Wednesday evening, May 20, at 7pm, at the Wood of Life exhibition in the Bridge Centre, Tullamore. This new set of four colourful posters, produced in both Irish and English, is the result of a partnership between Just Forests and T4-Technology Subjects Support Service. They are designed to help teachers and students to understand the need for a critical look at our use of natural resources in particular wood. The posters will be a graphical aid in the classroom to emphasise the importance of wood/forests in society and encourage sustainable development. T4 represents 1,200 construction studies teachers and woodwork teachers in Ireland"s 450 secondary schools. The posters are adaptations of four of the panels in Just Forests very popular hands-on, travelling exhibition, Wood of Life, which is running in the Bridge Centre Tullamore during National Biodiversity Week - May 17 to 24. At secondary level the posters will also be of great benefit to teachers of agricultural science, geography, art, history, music, religious education, economics, business and biology. While at primary level they will greatly assist teachers of "Living Things" strand in the science curriculum, "Natural and Human Environment" strands in the geography curriculum and "Environmental Awareness and Care" strand in science and geography. The posters are funded by Irish Aid at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Concern. Any school that turns up at the launch will receive a set of posters for their classroom.
