LA NA gCLUB In bright sunshine Clara Club celebrated the 125th anniversary of the GAA at Pairc Phroinsias on Sunday last. A large attendance of all ages participated in a day of fun and games. The clubs wish to thank all who helped in organising the event over the last few weeks and ensured it ran smoothly on the day. A football game between U18 girls and U16 boys was perhaps the highlight of the day with the boys emerging as winners by a narrow margin. An Taoiseach Brian Cowen, Club President, planted a tree on the new grounds and wished the club success in the future. It was a joyful day that is likely to become an annual event on the club calendar. SENIOR CITIZENS PASS Application forms for passes are available from committee members, the cost is €5 and the pass is valid for life. Ballycumber GAA Notes Defibrillator Scheme Last week saw the first AGM of the Defibrillator Scheme take place. Chairman, Liam Hackett extended his gratitude to everyone in the area who supported the Committee over the past year. There are now over 70 people trained in Heartsaver CPR and AED. In addition 24 Foroige members have been trained in CPR only. It is hoped that this Saturday 16, will see the missing AED from Devery"s, replaced and re-sited at Mick and Imelda Daly"s house. An AED will also be erected at Joe Bracken"s shop Pullough, and a further AED in Rashina, exact location to be confirmed. This will bring the total number of AED"s in the area to 10. Please familiarise yourself with the AED nearest to you. Thanks were also extended to Ballycumber GAA for the use of their facilities and in particular to Jim Kelly for the assistance given during training sessions. It was agreed that the group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 9pm at the Ballycumber GAA Club Room. These meetings are open for all to attend. La na gClub A great day was had in the Ballycumber Pitch on Sunday last celebrating 125 years of the GAA Thanks to the following who made the day such a success - Tony Ayres, Chairman of the organising committee; Jim Kelly for his wonderful display of photographs, programmes etc.; Geraldine Keena and Carol Robbins for organising the underage matches; Fr. James for his blessing and prayers; Camillus Hiney and his band of musicians for starting off the event; Vinny Minnock who organised a time capsule which was buried in the grounds. Thanks to all the players who turned up on the day and took part in the games. Thanks to those who made the tea and to all who turned up to mark this great occasion. Hurling Championship Well done to the Brosna Gaels intermediate team who won the first round of the championship by defeating Crinkle on Friday night last. U-16 Hurling Leinster League Brosna Gaels Under-16s defeated CRC Gaels in the Leinster League in Crinkle on Friday night last. Division 3 Football League Ballycumber were well beaten by Rhode in this competition on Saturday evening last. Sympathy Sincere sympathy to the families of Mary Flynn, Lackagh, Ballinahown; Bill Buckley, Pullough and Mrs. Reid of Rashina who were interred during the week. May they rest in peace.
