Tullamore Pitch and Putt Club Notes

President's Prize The finals of the President's Prize were held last week. The two young guns John Connolly and juvenile officer, Sean Galvin, fought it out for the main prize. Connolly was favourite to win but Galvin had other ideas and he duly took the honours 5 and 4. In the Plate, the two recycled teenagers Mick Byrne and Paddy McIntyre, played out a thrilling match. Byrne sprung from the traps at the first like a shot from a .22 leaving Paddy to play catch up. Not to be out done, Paddy played steadily consistent to be level at the 17th on the second time round. It all hinged on the last hole with Mick's ball rolling off the green leaving Paddy with a handy putt, which he made no mistake in sinking to win the match. Lucy Galvin was the lady in the competition and she also received a prize. President Jimmy Matthews was on hand to present the prizes and looking well and happy after his holiday in Tuscanny. The Club would like to thank him for sponsoring the event McKenna Juvenile Cup The final of the McKenna Cup was also played last week. Liam Huson played David Brophy in a thriller with Liam Huson taking the advantage over the very talented Brophy to win the Cup. Both boys played exceptionally well. There was great interest in the Plate with Dillon Melia taking on 11 year old Amy Galvin. Amy played great stuff with a maturity beyond her years. On the day Dillon took the honours after finishing runner up previously. Mr Sean McKenna (McKenna Electrical Tullamore) was delighted to sponsor the competition and the Club thank him for his ongoing and continuous support which he does in memory of his late father John.
