Edenderry gets 24/7 ambulance

Edenderry’s ambulance service has been upgraded to full-time cover. The 24/7 cover began at 8am this morning (Monday).

Crew numbers are reportedly to rise in conjunction with the expanded cover to up to ten, while it’s hoped a suitable premises will soon be secured for the service that’s currently based in Ofalia House.

A new ambulance costing in the region of €140,000 has also been added to the local service along with a response car.

“The provision of full ambulance cover to the area is a hugely positive development that I welcome, and I wish both current and new ambulance staff well,” local councillor Fergus McDonnell said.

Meanwhile local councillor Noel Cribbin said the expansion of the service can only be good news for the local area.

“Since the service came to town three years ago there have been many scares like Joe Swords and many lives saved because the ambulance was there in minutes,” he said.

“From now on if a person is in need of the ambulance let it be 4pm or 4am, the ambulance is manned and on duty.

“For me it just goes to prove that we don’t have to have TDs or Ministers to get services like a full time ambulance service once you have local councillors who are committed and will keep at it and make representations till we get the service that this town deserves,” he added.
