1980's Pittsburgh comes to Tullamore

Today (Monday) sees a part of Tullamore transformed into the American industrial city of Pittsburgh during the 1980s. There will be opportunities to experience what it was like for a young female welder working in “Hurley’s Steel Mill” during the day and dancing in local clubs like “Harry Green’s Steel Bar” at night. This is all part of the youth and community centre’s 43rd annual production “Flashdance The Musical”, made famous in a 1983 film of the same name.

Produced by the same team that brought “Cats” to Tullamore, this show promises to be on a par if not better. With huge interest among teenagers in the show, the production team decided that to give everyone a chance and because of the huge talent available to duplicate a number of roles. There will be six shows, with both groups getting to do three shows each.

The show tells the story of Alex Owens, a 19-year-old female welder by day and a flashdancer by night whose dream is to get a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. It features such memorable hits as “Gloria”, “Maniac”, “Manhunt” and of course “Flashdance/What a Feeling”.

The production runs from Monday, November 11 until Friday, November 15, with doors opening each night at 7.15pm and curtain up at 7.45pm sharp. There will also be a matinee on Friday afternoon at 4pm.

The box office is currently open in the Bridge Centre and it will remain open for the duration of the show or until all tickets are sold. More information is available by calling the centre on 057 9322963.
