All invited to 'Brain Teasers' in Tullamore library

Traditionally libraries are places you go to read books, but these days they are very much community facilities that host a variety of events.

This Thursday (October 31) for example, locals will have a chance to see ‘Brain Teasers’ at Tullamore library, a free play written and performed by members of the Puttaghaun Youth Drama Project under the guidance of Angela Ryan from Jasango Theatre.

‘Brain Teasers’ is a year in the making, with youngsters from Puttaghaun estate in Tullamore introduced over that time to script writing, dance and drama by directors Angela Ryan and Cabrini Cahill, choreographer Michelle Cahill and visual artist Emma Barone and mentored by members of Offaly Youth Theatre.

As a result the group came up with the play being performed on Wednesday at 4.30pm, and Angela Ryan says it’s been an enjoyable process.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with these young people,” she said. “I would like to thank their parents too, who have encouraged them to turn up at workshops and rehearsals every week. I am sure they will be pleasantly surprised by what they have achieved.”

Jasango Theatre was commissioned in 2012 by Offaly County Council and Tullamore Town Council to deliver a Public Art Youth Drama Project with the children of Puttaghaun. The project is funded under the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government’s per cent for art scheme.
