Here are the most Instagrammed locations in the midlands

The midlands is full of astonishing landscapes as well as popular historical sights, making it one of the top destinations in Ireland for photography and getaways.

The Maldron Hotel in Portlaoise took it upon themselves to ask 'what are the most Instagrammed spots in the midlands?'

As part of the research, over 30,000 hashtags were analysed to see which spots in Offaly, Laois, Longford and Westmeath are posted most on Instagram by both locals and tourists.

They found that the top ten locations are:

1. Clonmacnoise

2. Birr Castle Gardens

3. Rock of Dunamase

4. Emo Court

5. Lough Ree

6. Lough Boora Discovery Park

7. Sean's Bar

8. Charleville Castle

9. Lough Ennell

10. Slieve Bloom Mountains

Clonmacnoise reigned supreme with over 8,000 tags, with Birr Castle Gardens and Rock of Dunamase coming in second and third respectively.

Unsurprisingly, Ireland's oldest pub Sean's bar also features at number 7 with almost 2,754 posts, and Slieve Bloom Mountains on the Laois/Offaly border come in at number 10 with 1,673 Instagram hashtags.
