€50,000 Valentine's windfall for cardiac nurse, Sharon

Tullamore mother of four, Sharon Maher, is no stranger to heart palpitations in her role as a cardiology nurse, but she certainly must have had more than a few palpitations of her own over Valentine's weekend when she scooped a cool €50,000 in the televised National Lottery Winning Streak Game Show.

Sharon, who is a cardiology nurse specialist in the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore, where she has worked for over 14 years, was overjoyed when she was selected to spin the Winning Streak wheel on last Saturday night's Game Show on RTE 1 television.

Having already amassed a total of €28,000 during the Game Show itself, the lucky nurse went on to add another €22,000 to her winnings as a result of spinning the wheel, and she has now vowed to use part of her windfall to book “a nice family holiday” for her husband, Ray, and four children this summer.

Sharon found out some weeks ago that she was going to be appearing on the Winning Streak Game Show after she heard her name being called out on the Winning Streak Game Show.

She had just watched a movie with her husband of 12 years and their four children, who are aged between 10 and two, and the children were gone upstairs to prepare for bed. When Sharon heard her name being called out she excitedly called Luke, Aaron, Grace and Rebecca downstairs again and there was huge excitement in the house for the rest of the evening.

Sharon Maher, who likes to run in her spare time to keep fit, and is also a member of a local book club, grew up in Tullamore and comes from a large family with five brothers and four sisters. She wore a signature red dress for her appearance on the National Lottery Winning Streak Show in recognition of St. Valentine's weekend.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on Winning Streak and all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total more than €5.6 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 32 years ago. In 2019 alone, €250 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
