Batteries stolen from local compound

Batteries worth an estimated €2,000 were swiped from a premises owned by eir, the phone and broadband company, close to Kilbeggan recently.

In all, eight batteries were reported stolen from a locked compound on Wednesday, May 6, however, it's unclear when the crime actually took place. Gardai are working on the probability that it was sometime between mid-March which coincided with the lockdown right up to May 6. A drill was used on a metal gate to gain entry to the compound at Kilbeg, Kilbeggan.

Batteries have been targeted in other telecommunications depots around the country in similar incidents in recent times, said Sgt Andrew Haran from Athlone Garda Station.Anyone who can assist the investigation should call 09064 98550.
