Two men being detained in Tullamore after €3.9m cannabis seizure in Laois

Two men are currently being detained in Tullamore Garda Station, and another two men are being held in Portlaoise Garda Station, after a €3.9 million seizure of cannabis herb and cannabis products in Laois yesterday (Wedneday).

The Garda Press Office said that at approximately 9:15am yesterday, as part of ongoing intelligence operations targeting the sale and supply of drugs, a vehicle was stopped by Gardaí in the Raheen area of county Laois.

A search of the vehicle was carried out, and a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis herb, as well as a large amount of suspected cannabis products, were seized by Gardaí (see picture above).

The seized items are subject to analysis but, pending that analysis, their value has been estimated at approximately €3.9 million.

Four men were arrested at the scene. The two that are being detained in Tullamore are in their 40s, while two in their 30s are being held in Portlaoise.

All four men are detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The Garda investigation into the matter is ongoing.
