New powers for gardaí to break up house parties

The cabinet has agreed to give the gardaí new powers to fine people who hold house parties, according to reports.

It is believed that while gardaí can break up a house party they will not have the power to enter a home. They will instead ask the householder to break up the gathering and if they refuse they will be fined.

It is also being reported that the cabinet has agreed to increase the number of people who can attend a funeral to 25, in line with the maximum number that can go to a wedding. Yesterday, it was announced that the maximum number allowed at a funeral would be ten.

It is also being reporting that the government is set to introduce a range of fines in a bid to deter people from breaching Covid-19 guidelines during the six week lockdown which starts at midnight tomorrow.
