Tullamore group to stage Oscar Wilde comedy
Tullamore Amateur Dramatic Society (TADS) is preparing to bring Oscar Wilde’s classic theatre comedy, Lady Windermere's Fan, to Esker Arts from Wednesday, November 11, to Saturday, November 14, with performances at 8pm nightly.
Directed by Fionnuala Corrigan, this four-night production invites audiences into a world of secrets, scandal and high society, where appearances matter and reputations can change in an instant.
Written in 1892, this play is packed with the sort of scandal and social intrigue for which Wilde is famous, and it asks the audience; "How well do we really know the people we love - and the people we judge?"
Wilde’s razor-sharp wit keeps the laughs coming throughout the play, including Lord Darlington’s famous line, “I can resist everything except temptation,” delivered in this production by Daniel Shanley. It continues to be one of Wilde's most universally quoted lines today.
The story follows a young wife, Lady Windermere, whose seemingly perfect life is thrown into chaos by gossip, a mysterious stranger and a reputation that could change in an instant.
Featuring one of TADS' largest casts, the production brings together familiar performers and new faces for an evening of glamour, humour and theatrical intrigue.
TADS has recently staged ‘Bookworms’, ‘Rabbit Hole’, ‘The Incarnation of the Prodigal Son’, Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and Marina Carr’s ‘Portia Coughlan’. The society has also partnered with Esker Arts on a celebration of James Joyce, featuring scenes from Ulysses, to celebrate Bloomsday.
TADS continues to create opportunities for members to take part both on stage and behind the scenes. The group prides itself on producing quality shows time after time, offering members the opportunity to be more involved on stage and behind the scenes.
The group is honoured to be able to help the Blue Raincoat Company in its upcoming production of ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’, which runs for one night in Esker Arts on Thursday next, November 5.
Lady Windermere’s Fan will run for four nights and tickets are currently available from www.eskerarts.ie.
Whether you’re a devoted Wilde fan, a first-time theatregoer, or simply in need of a night out with more drama than a group chat, TADS invites you to join them for scandal, style and Wilde’s unmatched wit.
