Cold snap with us through weekend with freezing temperatures each night

Wintry weather is set to persist throughout the coming days, with Met Eireann's weather advisory for "frost and icy conditions" being extended right through to Sunday night.

The temperature isn't expected to get above freezing any of the nights between now and the end of the weekend, potentially leading to some difficult conditions on the roads.

Some wintry showers of sleet and slow are expected over the coming days, but at the moment it's thought that these will be mostly confined to the west and north.

Tonight (Thursday) will see temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees, with slackening winds resulting in a sharp frost and ice stretches on untreated surfaces.

Daytime temperatures for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be between 2 and 6 degrees, while at night it will range between 0 and -4, with Friday set to be marginally colder than the other nights.
