Tullamore teenagers to compete in MMA world championships

Two teenagers from Offaly - who train at SBG Tullamore - have been selected by Team Ireland for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Youth World Championships.

Both Jordan Scully and Bernie Ward have trained in mixed martial arts at SBG Tullamore under head coach Kieran Davern since they were young children. They competed for a spot on the Irish team earlier this week, and both of them won every match with finishes as opposed to by decision.

The IMMAF Youth World Championships will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria later this year, from July 30 to August 1. The championships were moved from Istanbul to Sofia due to the threat of the escalating Covid-19 situation in Turkey and increasing government restrictions.

Everybody involved in SBG Tullamore is delighted to see the talents of Jordan and Bernie recognised.

"It was a wonderful way to re-open the gym with such great news," said Jamie Houlihan of SBG Tullamore

SBG (Straight Blast Gym) Tullamore opened in August 2012 and is affiliated to SBG Ireland. It provides coaching and classes to suit all ages and abilities in such disciplines and activities as mixed martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and CrossFit.
