Possible Delta variant case in Offaly school

The HSE is investigating a possible Delta variant case of Covid-19 in an Offaly school.

“There is a case of Covid-19 in a county Offaly school that may be the Delta variant. This was determined by random screening. It is not confirmed but will be treated as a probable variant of concern,” a HSE statement over the weeked said.

Enhanced contact tracing will be conducted by contact tracing teams, health authorities added, adding that those affected will be tested and asked to isolate for 14 days.

“A cluster of cases in another class in the same school did not screen as the Delta variant,” the statement stressed.

Public health staff have been working with the school principal over the weekend to deal with the outbreak.

If you develop symptoms, please contact your GP and present for testing at your local centre.
