No final decision on Tullamore vaccine centre

The HSE said no final decision has been taken as yet on the length of time for which Offaly's vaccination centre, in the Tullamore Court Hotel, will remain in use.

Some changes to the number and locations of vaccination centres across the country are expected in the coming weeks. The Midlands' largest centre, in the Athlone IT International Arena, is due to close when students start to return to campus at the beginning of September.

When asked about the future of the Offaly centre, HSE spokesperson Dymphna Bracken wouldn't comment on it specifically but said discussions were continuing "on the future number and location of vaccination centres, in line with National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) advice."

Meanwhile, additional walk-in vaccination clinics are to be held at the Tullamore centre on Thursday next, August 26. The no-appointment jabs will be provided to people aged 16 and above between 9.15am and 12.30pm that day.

People in this age group can attend for either their first or second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, but those attending for a second dose must ensure that at least 21 days have passed since their first vaccine. This will be followed by a walk-in clinic for people in the youngest vaccination age cohort, 12 to 15-year-olds, between 1.30pm and 4pm on Thursday.
