Woman threatened and robbed in local town park

A woman was threatened and robbed during daylight hours in a park in Tullamore today (Monday, September 27).

Gardaí are investigating the incident which happened between 1.30pm and 1.45pm in Lloyd Park, also known as Tullamore Town Park, according to a post this evening on the Garda Síochána Laois Offaly Facebook page.

"The male threatened to harm the injured party unless she gave him money. He stole the contents of her purse," it adds.

He fled the scene on what's described as a "dark newish mountain bike" in the direction of Cormac Street, and is believed to have cycled towards the town centre, possibly turning off onto O'Moore Street.

He was wearing a black surgical type mask covering his face and is described as around 5'10 in height, of stocky build, with a brown/ashy eyebrows and grey hoody pulled up, the post on the Garda Síochána Laois Offaly Facebook page continues. The man is also said to have spoke with a "hard/rough voice".

Tullamore Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses - urging anyone who may have been in the town park on Monday afternoon to come forward - or anyone who saw the man leaving the scene or any person fitting the description shortly afterwards.

Anyone who can assist the investigation, should call Tullamore Garda Station 057 9327600 in confidence.
