Mooney makes more international waves

Talented Offaly soccer player Emma Mooney has achieved further international recognition following a call-up today (Wednesday) to play for the Republic of Ireland Under-19s.

Emma, a former young player at Kelligh FC and now with Athlone Town FC in the League of Ireland Premier Division, is one of 20 players called on for upcoming UEFA European Championships qualifiers against Armenia, Georgia and Bulgaria.

The matches will all take place in Bulgaria between October 7 and 13.

There are first call-ups at this level for nine players, including goalkeeper Laura Fanning, defenders Holly O’Hagan and Amelia Fahey, midfielders Alex Devoy, Tess Finn, Beatrice Silickatie, Sophie Byrne, Aoife Colbert Martin, as well as striker Ciara Breslin.

International Lead Coach Chelsea Noonan will be assisted by Gary Seery as they set about topping Group B2 and taking a step closer to the finals tournament in Hungary.
