Motorcycle trio found driving at shocking speed in Offaly

Gardai have said that three motorcyclists who were travelling together in Offaly over the weekend showed "no regard for their safety or that of others" by driving at more than double the speed limit.

The Offaly Roads Policing Unit clocked the trio travelling at 188km per hour in an 80km zone, and they are known to have passed through the Meelaghans, Ballina Cross and Ballinagar areas.

Gardai said the shocking speed would have meant "instant death for them, and possibly another family, if they lost control."

Investigations are ongoing to identify the motorcyclists, and anyone with information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 9327600.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána are appealing to motorcycle riders to slow down, ‘ease off the throttle, and keep within the speed limits.

This appeal is being made in response to the high number of motorcycle fatalities seen this year.
