Ones to watch out for - The Top 10 Movie Blockbusters coming in 2022

Compiled by John Daly

Deep Water

Adrian Lyne directs Ben Affleck, Ana de Armas and Tracy Letts thriller based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith about a married couple going through a difficult patch, playing dangerous games that eventually lead to murder.

Marry Me

Jennifer Lopez leads a heavyweight cast that includes Owen Wilson and Sarah Silverman in this story of a pop star who ends up marrying a fan as revenge on her cheating partner. Love does not run smooth, as you might imagine.

Ambulance

Diretor Michael Bay tones down his usual all-action outlook in this adaptation of a Danish film about a pair of thieves who unwittingly steal an ambulance carrying a paramedic and a patient in critical condition. Jake Gyllenhaal stars.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Benedict Cumberbatch is huge following the success of The Power of the Dog, and stars here with Elizabeth Olsen and Rachel McAdams in this latest entry in the Marvel Universe.

Elvis

The title hasn’t yet been finalised, but director Baz Luhrmann steers Austin Butler, Tom Hanks and Olivia DeJonge in this biopic about the relationship between a young Elvis Presley and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Butler worked hard to win the role of The King, while Hanks hams it up as the domineering Colonel.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, these’s no stopping the little yellow chaps. With the first Minions movie having made more than €1.5 billion globally and helped the Despicable Me franchise become the highest grossing animated franchise of all time, these chaotic creatures will be around for years to come.

Nope

Scaring the life out of us is the defining characteristic of director Jordan Peele following the huge success of Get Out and Us. Starring Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya, the basic plot is still under wraps - but expect more in the way of chilling moments and unexpected jolts you’ll never get over.

Halloween Ends

Is it really the end? Supposedly the trilogy ends with the appropriately title, in which Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode will finally defeat Michael Myers. Expect slashing, bashing and general blood-letting right through - but I’ll only believe Myers is dead when I see it.

Avatar 2

It has taken the guts of 15 years for director James Cameron to re-unite Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Kate Winslet for more of this excellent sci-fi set on planet Pandora. As more enemies arise, the good guys have to ready their birds for more aerial combat.
