New Women’s Shed launches in Offaly

Tullamore Women's Shed is holding a registration day for its new shed this Friday.

Women interested in joining can attend the registration day from 9.30am at LOETB, Castle buildings, 2nd floor in Tullamore.

The new women's shed has had huge interest already according to Chair of the Tullamore Women's Shed, Olive Davis.

"Over 800 women have joined the Facebook group set up for the shed already and are looking forward to the activities. Women around the county have offered their services to the group." The shed has been described as “Women empowering other women. A safe space where women can learn new skills, have a cuppa and a chat.”

The Tullamore shed plans to hold coffee mornings in the next few weeks and then a variety of workshops in crochet, meditation, mindfulness, first aid, health, nutrition, introduction to yoga, armchair yoga, creative writing, flower arranging and Indian head massage.

There will also be talks on different subjects and women's issues such as menopause, IVF, finance, budgeting and career advice.

Music Generation have also offered to provide ukulele lessons on Fridays.

In the summer the group hopes to have more outdoor activities such as paddling and aqua aerobics along with setting up a walking group.

The new women's shed recently organised a walk for International Women's Day and over 20 women turned up for the walk with Cllr Mark Hackett in attendance.

Membership for the Tullamore Women's Shed is €20 for the year and all women over 18 are welcome to join.

Women's Sheds were set up for women of all ages to re-connect with themselves and the wider community. They are safe places where women can come together and take part in various projects.
