Man due in court after vehicle set on fire in Tullamore

A man who was arrested after the arson of a vehicle in Tullamore during the early hours of yesterday (Thursday) morning has been charged in connection with the incident.

Sergeant John Doran of Tullamore Garda Station confirmed to the Offaly Independent that a car had been damaged by fire in the Charleville Parade area of the town at 2am on Thursday.

Some properties in the vicinity may also have sustained smoke damage as a result of the incident.

A male was subsequently arrested and detained at Tullamore Garda Station yesterday. Sergeant Doran said the man had since been charged and was due to appear at a sitting of Athlone District Court this morning.

Gardai have appealed for anyone with information about, or footage of, the fire to come forward.

"If there was anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, or has CCTV or dash camera footage, we would appreciate it if they got in touch," said Sergeant Doran.
