Offaly TD provides update on reopening of day centres

Fianna Fáil TD for Laois-Offaly, Barry Cowen, has received assurances that the HSE is committed to the safe reopening of all day care centres in Clara and Riada House, Tullamore.

Deputy Cowen said, “Day centres are fundamental to the health and well-being of our older population and play a key role in enabling older people to live independently in their own communities.

"I recently asked the HSE as to whether they could provide clarity regarding the timeline of the safe reopening of day centre services in Clare and Tullamore. From that correspondence, I understand that there are some minor infrastructural works required in both locations and this is currently in progress. Additionally, a recruitment campaign is underway to address the recent retirements from these locations.

“The pandemic and associated restrictions has had a profound impact across society and especially for our older population. My colleagues and I in Government have made it a priority to ensure that day centres reopen as quickly and as safely as possible and will continue to do so.”
