Maughan steps down as Offaly senior football manager

After four years in charge of the Offaly senior football team, John Maughan has stepped down from the role.

His departure was announced in a statement from Offaly GAA this morning (Wednesday).

The county board said it wanted to "sincerely thank John and all his backroom team for their commitment and dedication towards our senior football team throughout their tenure."

The Cathaoirleach of the county board, Michael Duignan, thanked John "for his positive contribution to Offaly football over the past four years," and wished the Mayo native and his family "every best wish and success in the future."

Tomás Ó Sé, the 44-year-old former Kerry footballer who was part of John Maughan's backroom team this year, is being widely tipped as his likely successor.

Offaly last month reached the semi-final stage of the Tailteann Cup, where they lost to the competition's eventual winners, Westmeath.
