Work on Daingean social housing project due to commence in November

The construction of a development of nine social houses in Daingean is expected to begin before the end of this year.

Offaly County Council recently advertised for a contractor to build the houses at a site on Circular Road in the town, to the rear of the Mary, Mother of God Church.

The development is to consist of eight terraced and semi-detached two-storey houses, and one detached house, along with associated works. Each of the houses will have three bedrooms.

External works associated with the project will include underground drainage, culvert, attenuation tanks, and the installation of site services and landscaping works.

The project obtained planning approval through the council's Part 8 planning process in 2020.

Earlier this month, the local authority advertised for tenders from contractors interested in carrying out the construction work at the site.

Companies have until September 12 to submit their bids for the project, and the council said it was aiming for a start date of November this year.

The period of the contract will be for 13 months which means that, if all goes according to plan, the new social housing should be ready for occupation towards the end of 2023.
